March 31, 2005. Facades of the Vilniaus Vartai Complex to be Installed by Hronas

On April 11, a leader in production of windows and facades, the company Hronas commences the works at the largest so far façade construction project in Lithuania, modern commercial and residential housing complex Vilniaus Vartai to be erected at the intersection of the Gelezinio Vilko, Gyneju and Lukiskiu Streets. Hronas will mount its aluminum – glass structure facades and ventilated facades with ceramic tile and façade louver finish at the complex planned for opening in March, next year. The design project of the complex is developed by Ranga IV Investicijos UAB.

According to Mr. Vytautas Vankevicius, the Head of the Hronas Façades, “We appreciate the project developers’ trust in our company and this opportunity to take part at the largest façade construction project that has been ever developed in Lithuania. In Vilniaus Vartai, Hronas is ready to mount about 32,000 square meters of facades. Up to the moment, the title of the largest project of the kind has been owned by the trade center Europa, where the façade area amounted to 12.5 thousand square meters.

The Vilniaus Vartai complex will comprise buildings of different functions: 12-storey prestige office building, 17-storey apartment and 8-storey flat buildings. On the ground floors of the complex small boutiques, trade passage, restaurants, cafes and underground parking lots in several layers will be situated. The highest building will be erected over the Gelezinio Vilko Street after extension of the traffic tunnel by 90 meters.

According to Ms Dita Purliene, the Marketing Director of Ranga IV, in selection of materials for the complex, their quality has been considered rather than price. “In preparation for the Vilniaus Vartai construction process, we have conducted the traffic-caused vibration, noise and pollution analyses. Although the test results have demonstrated 34 dB as the limit value for sound insulation resistance of outdoor partitions recommended to suppress the noise caused by the street traffic, we have chosen windows with the sound insulation resistance up to 47 dB, in order to ensure the highest possible comfort to the residents and office employees,”, Ms Purliene admitted.

As Mr. Vankevicius stated, such high sound resistance ratio is ensured by a special structure of the window insulating glass unit, as it is really thick, totaling to 31 mm, and the external glass in a window is laminated by the sound absorbing film, apart from other properties, to ensure higher security level (in case of breakage, glass fragments cannot go down to the outside) and attractive esthetic appearance (façade will not be divided by minor, different color elements, household items unavoidable for domestic, as well as office environment).

According to Remigijus Bimba, the project architect, the new building complex will be outstanding not only by the quality of materials used, but also by advanced technological solutions. In commercial parts of the complex, 3.5 thousand square meters show windows, the largest, ever used amount in Lithuania, will be installed. The height of their solid glasses will reach up to 5 meters. Insulating glass units used in such show windows are even thicker, 34 mm with solar energy control function, laminated as well to protect the trade outlets against cracking thefts. Glossy dark grey color has been chosen for commercial and office building facades, and in the residential premises, light grey will be used.

The solidity and luxuriance of the complex will be stressed out by natural stone – granite – finish used on the lower floors of the buildings, and the general impression of lightness will be emphasized by polished and glanced ceramic tiles, so far never used in Lithuania. Easily mounted, light grey ceramic tiles will cover 6.8 thousand square meters façade area in the complex. Facades of the technical premises will be spread with façade louvers to cover ventilation outlets and perform the finish function.

In 2004, the sales by Hronas, the leading window producer in the country, grew by 28 percent as compared to 2003, exceeding 116 million Litas. The major share of the company’s sales, 48 million Litas came from the sales in aluminum and glass facades. Last year, the Hronas façade solutions were applied in the most advanced construction projects, such as the trade and entertainment center Europa, trade center Ermitazas, office building Victoria, SBA office building in Kaunas and other objects.
